After Love Letters...we took a nap. And then we got right into a wormhole on the other project we started last month, our community zine Above Water!
Thank you to everyone that sent in submissions, some made us laugh and some made us cry and all of them were so epic and cool. The first volume of Above Water will be hittin the streets TODAY! Specifically Main Street, inside our new zine box at the @madisoncountyarts - we'll be loading them up this evening at the Loud & Dirty show around 5 pm! Come see some music and snag a copy!

If you want a copy but can't make it into town, we'll pop one in the mail for you for a $5-10 donation to our project! Venmo @ itsyesmam and send us a screenshot and your address! Donations help us a fund more projects, more zines, more cool stuff - because we're real broke and art supplies aren't cheap!

(Of course, if you submitted work - we'll send ya one for free, just shoot us a DM!)

The Love Letters Event is NEXT WEEK!
Make Marshall your Valentine! ♥️ We've got so many fun things planned for a real special time in town.

❣️ We'll be posted up in Downtown Marshall for two afternoons on Valentines Eve & Valentines Day. You can find us in the lot next to the My Sisters Place building on Main Street.
Thursday Feb 13th from 3-6 pm and Friday Feb 14th from 5-10 pm!

Join us for a special display of love letters and a sweet showcase of community love. Both days, we'll be inviting folks to help us make our community mural. Design your own addition at our crafting table and we'll teach you how to wheatpaste it onto our displays. Our canvas will be made from recycled window boards from rebuild, donated by our neighbors as they move onto the next phase of recovery ✨

Love Letters Mailbox✌🏽is up at our beloved @coffeezuma (coffee truck edition)

There is something quite powerful about writing a letter to Marshall, while sitting in the heart of her ♥️

Zuma has always been a supporter of local arts, using their walls as a rotating gallery for the plethora of artists that live here. We think Joel letting us put this big blue mailbox in the parking lot is kinda the same thing. We're thankful ❤️‍🔥

The @coffeezuma coffee truck makes what would be a barren, concrete lot into something joyful. Familiar faces, tasty coffee, big smiles, new neighbors - an energy so vibrant and warm that you forget the construction, dump trucks and flood debris in the backdrop. Its so reminiscent of the space this whole crew provided for our town, even without a building to contain it.
That's that magic we always talk about 🪄✨ There is nothing more Marshall than Zuma and nothing more Zuma than Marshall.

Go order a coffee from the truck, sit down at a picnic table, and get out some feelings - whether about town, good memories, or to Zuma itself...

We started talking about this project in the midst of the "after storm", often times in evening rants after long and blurred days fulfilling our roles in community care.

We just find it funny that when "normal" life was disrupted - the ordinary pressures, daily routine, and woes of capitalism removed - the ideas, creativity and generosity began to overflow.

It's the silver lining from a time that was, for lack of a better term, really fucking terrible. It was a taste of utopia in a time of despair. We found so much solace in togetherness. So many new relationships, new bonds. And so much comfort in the things we could create together. Call it shared trauma, we call it how shit is supposed to be.

Its been a little over 100 days and life is far from normal in WNC. But the world has continued to move, and we carry those experiences close to chest.

We can't forget the creativity, grace, support, and love we witnessed pour from every corner of our community - its weird to say we miss that part, and only hope to bottle it up and sprinkle it into everything we do. We meet every week to talk about that, and have quite a few things we can't wait to share. Projects we think capture a taste of that utopia we now think exists inside each and every one of us.
Most importantly though, they are fun, and accessible, and rooted in joy. Thats something we know we all could use right now.

(Folks with roots or personal connections here can also submit, work from our flood impacted community in Madison County & surrounding prioritized!)

Submissions can be illustrations, poems, songs, mixed media, photos, comics, instructional lists, recipes, and more and more. Work should be along the theme - "what keeps us above water" or "what keeps us afloat" or even water itself. We are seeking work along the intersections of grief & hope after Hurricane Helene. Stories and art that explore the simultaneous heartaches and healing and how we keep each other, or ourselves, from sinking.

An underwear maker, a screenprinter and two artists walk into @mals.bar.marshall ... and we want to be able to do that again.

Our recovery here in Madison County has been led by an enormous community effort; locals supporting locals. Neighbors supporting neighbors.

We want to be makers supporting makers, fueled by the resilience and collaborative spirit that has always existed here.

Hi! We're YES MAM! That stands for YES "Marshall Artists and Makers"! We're a group of goofy gals, creatives and makers in Marshall, NC - a small town in WNC. In case you haven't heard...there was a flood here.

Yes MAM was born in the wake of disaster, our contribution to the ongoing recovery of our community after Hurricane Helene. We are locals working alongside our community, helping & holding each other close as we dig out of the devastation.

We embark on the long road to recovery with hopeful eyes, proud of the strength of our community and the hearts we live amongst. Like so many others here, we adapt, finding new purpose in a post-Helene world, new uses for the skills we have and the new ways that art & creativity can bring us closer together.

YES MAM is a collective for our collective grief. Artists supporting artists, neighbors supporting neighbors. And basically a lot of cool stuff we made to support the recovery of our town, loved ones, & a sustainable future.
