a DIY Makers collective and mutual aid project born FROM A STORM

Our collective was born in the wake of Hurricane Helene to help support, encourage and revitalize our vibrant community of artists and makers.  Our projects center raising awareness and supporting the incredible creativity of our area, while contributing to local recovery through handmade goods, collaborative crowdfunding, and direct services.  We aim to create a space for encouragement, imagination and togetherness in the shadow of the storm.

Our recovery is one big group project.  Co-conspire with us.

Otherwise called Magictown, Marshall is known for its "Creative Life" - a haven for makers, artists, and dreamers who've inspired and uplifted one another for decades. A small but vibrant community of where historic Appalachia and a bunch of weirdos intersect along the French Broad River. When Hurricane Helene struck, 27 feet of floodwater tore through our streets, leaving behind devastation in the place of thriving promise. It didn’t just sweep away our buildings—it carried off dreams, homes, years of work, decades of memories and the very heart of our community. Downtown Marshall is more than just a gathering place. It was where art was shared, music came alive, and connections were forged. It was the lifeblood of our culture and the foundation of so many livelihoods. Losing it felt like losing a part of ourselves.   But in the face of loss, our community rose with a spirit that can’t be washed away. Neighbors supported neighbors. Locals lifted locals. Makers empowered makers. Together, we are rebuilding not just structures, but hope, purpose, and a renewed sense of belonging. The road to recovery is long, but it is paved with love and resilience. Our "Creative Life" is not just a slogan; it’s the foundation of the future we’re building—one project, one dream, and one act of kindness at a time.
